This model has a relatively simple woodworking but has chronic problems that affect almost all the cars.

The Walnut burl veneered profiles around the seat adjustment controls and the two small profiles on the back of the door handles, tend to delamination from the aluminum. Through accurate process it is possible to ensure a stable bonding between wood and aluminum. However, it is necessary to bear in mind that this type of coupling is very difficult for the nature of the elements to join.

Generally, the central consoles -that surround the gear lever-  do not present major structural problems. In most cases it is sufficient to remove the polyester cracked finish and apply a new finishing cycle. It is sometimes necessary to replace the Walnut burl due to the strong yellowing from the sun exposure; in this case is totally useless to dye the old veneer with the hope that re-take the original beauty. If the burl were dyed, the wood will darken and the natural contrasts are hidden; is thus that a final result of a new finish on a very dyed burl, will be similar to a plastic wood effect.

The R129 restyling cars don’t have the seat adjustment profiles and neither on the back of door handles. Instead, they have longitudinal profiles along the entire length of the door panel. In addition, a new type of burl appears, honey-natural colored and one third dyed with translucent black.
